Rogers Ferrell Obituary

A celebration of life for Rogers "Flash" Ferrell, 74, of Anniston, will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 12:00pm at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Hobson City with Pastor Anthony Chatmon, officiating. Interment will be in the Forestlawn Gardens. A public viewing will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 3pm-7pm at the funeral home. Professional services entrusted to S.M. Goodson Funeral Home-Anniston. Born on March 16, 1950, to George Shealy and Effie Stone Ferrell in Dadeville, Alabama, Mr. Rogers Ferrell was a man of deep faith, love, and solid service who touched the lives of many throughout his 74 years on this earth. Mr. Ferrell's early years were marked by a steadfast commitment to his faith, as he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and became an active choir member at Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. His journey in education culminated with graduation from Calhoun County Training School in 1969. Following his graduation, Mr. Ferrell honorably served in the United States Army as a Combat Medic while serving in the Vietnam War. After returning to civilian life in Fort McClellan, he dedicated himself to the community, Mr. Ferrell began doing lawn care, cutting grass, and went to Military Police School, eventually working his way up to retiring as a supervisor of the RIMS section in the Chemical Engineering Department. In his personal life, Flash cherished the love and companionship of his wife, Andrea Battle Ferrell, whom he met and married, creating a blessed union that flourished through love and devotion. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Ahmad Ferrell and Kendra Ferrell, who carry forward his legacy of love and commitment to family. The joy of his life was multiplied by the arrival of three grandchildren: Dr. Akesia Ferrell-Ransaw, Asante' Ferrell, and Ahrie Ferrell, who brought him immeasurable happiness. The peaceful transition of Mr. Rogers "Flash" Ferrell was on January 24, 2025, while in the care of Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his beloved family. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, George Shealy and Effie Ferrell, Brothers, Johnny W. Ferrell, Joseph Ferrell, George Shealey, Jr., Noah Shealey; Sisters, Katie Williams, Hester Smedley, Eula L. Foster, Annie S. Ferrell, Christine Shealey, Ida Shealey, Jessie Shealey, Father and Mother-In-Law, Edward and Dorothy Echoles, Brother-In-Law, Willie Battle; Sister-In-Law, Wilma Davis; and best friend, Aaron "AK" Kirkland. Mr. Ferrell leaves behind a profound legacy of love, resilience, and inspiration that will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Rogers, affectionately known as "Flash," earned this nickname not just from his quickness on the baseball field, where he once showcased his exceptional coaching skills, but also from an unforgettable moment in his youth, when he outpaced a rabbit on foot. This spirit of speed and vitality remained with him throughout his life, as he exhibited the same passion and energy in everything he pursued. An avid sports fan, Rogers had an unyielding support for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Alabama Roll Tide, and the Anniston Bulldogs. His enthusiasm for sports transcended mere fandom; it was a testament to his love for teamwork, community, and the joy of competition. As we mourn the passing of a remarkable man, let us also celebrate the cherished memories and the legacy he leaves behind with his loving Wife, Andrea B. Ferrell of Anniston, AL; Son, Ahmad Ferrell of Anniston, AL, Daughter, Kendra Ferrell of Hiram, GA; Grandchildren, Dr. Akesia Ferrell-Ransaw (EJ), Asanté Ferrell, Ahrie Ferrell; Siblings, Mary Clopton of Anniston, AL, Martha Elston of Anniston, AL, Eloise Judkins of Anniston, AL, Claudia Shealey, Nellie Shealey of Georgia, David Shealey of California; In-Laws, Barbara Foster (Spencer) of Anniston, AL, Christine Guster (Lannie) of Pensacola, FL, James Battle of Birmingham, AL; special bonus family, Rakeshia, Tasha, and PerQuida, his favorite coach at AHS, Lisa Howard-Holland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. His spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

Roger was a friend. I am going to miss his humor. He always told me I wanted to be in his family since my last name was Ferrell. My favorite prank was to tell him I had found a job for him. He told me he was going to contact his lawyer if anyone called him about a job. RIP Ferrell will meet you on the other side.
