Roy Anderson Obituary

Roy Morris "Pop" Anderson, 82, of Danville, Alabama went peacefully home to be with the Lord while surrounded by his family on April 17th, 2025. Morris was born May 19, 1942, in Anniston, Alabama to Roy William and Grace Nabors Anderson. He attended elementary, middle and a portion of high school in Anniston. He attended Butler High School in Huntsville in his junior and senior years and graduated there in 1961. This is where he met the love of his life, Joanne Hagood Anderson. Their first date was to the Junior prom, and they continued dating until their marriage. Morris and Joanne married on May 19, 1962, and resided in Anniston until they moved to Plainview, Texas where Morris attended Lippert Court Reporting College. This education paved the way for a 54-year career as an official Court Reporter for the State of Alabama. He served under four Circuit Court Judges. The Honorable James N. Bloodworth, Honorable Richard L. "Dick" Hundley, Honorable Sherry Paler and Honorable Jennifer Howell. Morris retired from court reporting on May 19, 2017. According to Morris, he "trained four Judges and a slew of young lawyers". In addition to his service as a Court Reporter, he served in the Alabama House of Representatives serving House District 8 from 1990-1994. Morris and Joanne raised two sons, Scott and Stan. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years, his sons, Scott (Cindy) and Stan (Shannon), four grandchildren, Evan Anderson, Charlee Cooper (Taylor), Jabe Anderson, and Ella Kate Anderson, a great granddaughter, Willow Scott Cooper, and two very special young ladies he considered his own, Holly Campbell (fiancé to Evan) and Laney Coker. He is also survived by his sister Peggy Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice Family Care and their deepest, heartfelt gratitude to Morris' care giver Jessica Goodwin whom he affectionately referred to as "Little Bit". A Funeral service was held Monday, April 21st at 12:00 noon at First Bible Church in Decatur with Pastor Steve Bateman officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Monday at the Church with a funeral service beginning at noon. A private burial was in the Forestlawn Gardens Cemetery in Anniston. Evan Anderson, Jabe Anderson, Taylor Cooper, Bobby Hagood, Doug Hagood, Stephen Hagood, Brian Downs, and Marty Nelson served as pallbearers. Morris loved to fish, rabbit hunt, and take trips to the beach with his family where he would always be the last one to come off the beach. He was happiest gathering with his family for worship, or to celebrate holidays, birthdays or any other occasion that brought them together. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - Alabama Chapter at 500 Office Park Drive, Suite 221, Birmingham, Alabama 35223.
