Sara Sproull Choquette Obituary

Anniston - Sara Sproull Choquette, a descendent of one of Anniston's founding families, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 10, 2011. A memorial service will be held in her honor at the First Presbyterian Church in Anniston on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend David Rice officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A great-granddaughter of the late James Creswell Sproull, Anniston's mayor in 1905, and a daughter of the late H. Miller Sproull, an Anniston City Commissioner in 1963, Sara is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Sproull Choquette, of Birmingham, and Sara Choquette Jensen (husband, Richard F. Jensen III), of Lexington, Virginia; her loving mother, Barbara Vaden Sproull, of Anniston; a brother, James Creswell Sproull IV, of Anniston; a brother, Hunt Miller Sproull (wife, Susan Sproull), of Slidell, Louisiana; a sister, Barbara Sproull Snow (husband, Gary Snow) of Sandersville, Georgia; a sister, Eva Sproull Andrews, of Anniston; a brother, H. Miller Sproull III (wife, Joy Sproull), of Birmingham; and several nieces and nephews. Remembered as a lady and a scholar by her friends and family, Sara never lost her love of learning upon graduation from Salem College located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her distinguished career at Salem College was preceded by the same at the Anniston Academy, now The Donoho School, where she served as valedictorian of the Class of 1968. Sara's wide range of interests and her love of history made her a wonderful family archivist and registrar for the Bienville chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her broad range of knowledge came from reading and travel both of which she enjoyed. A wonderful mother, daughter and sister, Sara was a continuous giver of love and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Anniston, The Donoho School, and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Sara was one of the most beautiful and gracious ladies Anniston has known. It was a joy attending Anniston Academy with her.
