HAGERSTOWN — Dorothy Alise Smith, 91, of Hagerstown, MD, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Doey's House. Born Thursday, January 12, 1933, in Wadesboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late Frank Harrington and the late Mary (Gathins) Harrington. Dorothy graduated from Lilesville High School, where she was a cheerleader. In her early years she was employed at Wade Mill in Wadesboro, NC and later with J.L. Jones Construction in Charlotte, NC. In 1977 they relocated to Hagerstown, MD, where Dorothy enjoyed being a wife and mother. She was a member of Hagerstown Church (Formerly First Baptist Church) in Hagerstown. She loved gardening and flowers. Dorothy loved music and singing and sang in a trio with her sister and cousin. She is survived by her husband of 72 years Walter Jackson Smith, Sr., son, Walter Jackson Smith, Jr. and wife Kimberly, sister, Ruby Sheppard, grandchildren, Grant J.B. Smith and wife Nicole and Cole A.B. Smith and wife Lindsey and great granddaughter, Scarlett Rae Smith and pending the arrival of great grandson Reese Jackson Smith. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bruce Harrington and Prentice Harrington and a sister, Gladys Goodman. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 1:30 pm, at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 South Potomac Street Hagerstown, MD, with Pastor Joshua McClain officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Doey's House c/o Hospice of Washington County Hospice 1710 Underpass Way Suite 300. Hagerstown, MD 21740.
