Allen G. Potter, Jr.

AGE: 88 • Branchburg

Allen G. Potter Jr, 88, of Branchburg, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2015. Born in Germantown PA, he resided in Doylestown PA, before moving to Branchburg NJ 56 years ago.

Mr. Potter was previously a member of the New Jersey State Board of Education and president of the Branchburg Board of Education during Branchburg's efforts to develop a Branchburg High School. He also served as a trustee of the Branchburg Education Foundation and a member of the Branchburg Municipal Republican Committee. He served his country in the US Army Air force during 1944-45. Allen was an avid reader who enjoyed history, especially American History. During his spare time he enjoyed fishing, stamp and coin collecting, watching classic movies, but most importantly spending quality time with his family. He had a passion for dogs and was especially fond of his yellow Labrador Retriever Fred.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Allen G. Potter, Sr. and Bertha Kraft Potter. Surviving are his 3 sons; Jeffrey and wife Lori of Memphis TN, David and wife Annie of Branchburg NJ, and Richard and wife Ivana of Branchburg NJ; his daughter Anne Potter of Wilmington NC; his sister Ruth Hastie of Toronto Canada, and 4 wonderful grandchildren, Melissa, Christopher, Lorann, and Sarah. Viewing will be held Tuesday January 6, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 Rt. 202 South, Branchburg NJ 08876. Prayer services will be held Wednesday January 7, 2015 at 11AM at the funeral home. Committal will be private. www.branchburgfuneralhome.com

I had the privileged of working with Dr. Potter when we established the Memorial Day Commemoration at Stony Brook School. I was always impressed by his eagerness to learn something new, and his desire to share his knowledge with everyone. I think about him each year as we prepare for Memorial Day.
