Anna M. Petersen
AGE: 91 • Marlboro
Anna M. Petersen, 91, of Marlboro, NJ went to heaven on Sunday, July 31, 2011. Anna was born to the late Paul and Magdalena Heine, March 5, 1920, in the Bronx, NY. She lived on Staten Island, NY for many years before relocating to Marlboro, N.J. with her late husband Daniel F. Petersen. Anna graduated from Curtis High School on S.I. as well as from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn (class of 1940). She was a registered dietitian and worked at St. Vincent's Hospital and Richmond Memorial Hospital as well as with the Staten Island Public School System. She was a Teamster. Anna enjoyed socializing with members of the St. Gabriel's Friendship Club, The MainStreeters, St. Clements Senior Citizen Club, and Marlboro Knitting Club. She was a founding member of the Hillside Swim Club on S.I. and spent many happy times there, treating her family and friends to magnificent barbecues made even better by her warm personality and witty remarks. She was very active with the Staten Island Companion Dog Training Club and won many awards with her beloved Golden Retrievers. She was an avid reader, enthralled with the internet, kept up to date with news and politics. Her love for animals was always apparent. Anna had volunteered a great deal of her time and talent with the Staten Island Council for Animal Welfare. The message "Neuter and Spay don't let the stray" is one she'd like mentioned.
She was predeceased by her husband Daniel F. Petersen, daughter Beatrice Mueller, and sister Beatrice Cirbus. Close by, just over the Rainbow Bridge, are her beloved dogs, Amy, Nellie, Bitsy, Suzy, Cookie, Kim, Lepchen and Midnight. She is survived by her devoted daughter Mrs. Joan Petersen Wysocki, her son-in-law Jim Wysocki, grandsons Christopher Mueller and his wife Mary, Matthew Mueller. Niece Beth Morris, and nephew Charles Cirbus.
The service will be private. Please support Anna's wishes with a donation to the Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue Club, PO Box 808, Hudson, MA 01749.
Anna's final days were made comfortable by Dr. Mankarios as well as the whole caregiver team at the Care One Nursing Center in Holmdel, NJ. They became special friends and treated her like family.
