Anthony Citro Obituary

Anthony (Tony) L. Citro

AGE: 82 • Brick

Anthony (Tony) L. Citro, of Brick, passed away peacefully after fighting a long and courageous battle with Lymphoma on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, just 8 days shy of his 83rd birthday with his wife and children by his side. Tony was born and raised in Hoboken, later moved to Hazlet and then settling in Brick upon retirement.

Tony is predeceased by his parents, Guiseppe and Antoinette Citro; his brothers, Frank and Louie, and sisters, Connie Cecere, Eva Servider and Dolores Rutigliano. He is survived by his wife Irene of 62 years of marriage; his children, Janet, Steven, Robert and Mark; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Tony is an Army veteran, who served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a longstanding member of the American Legion Post 129, a former trustee for the community he lived, a member of the Church of Visitation and always volunteered to help anyone in need. Tony was an accomplished carpenter in life, retiring from Lucent Technologies in 1995. As we drove around the state, he was proud to tell his family, "I built that." He also was the human Mapquest when it came to giving people directions.

Tony's favorite things in life were to sit in his recliner watching old cowboy movies, the NY Jets, bowling, being king of the remote and the most important thing to him was his family. Tony loved to dance, laugh, joke and eat.

Visiting will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at the Silverton Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River. Funeral Friday, Aug. 22; arrive at the funeral home 10 a.m. Funeral Mass 11 a.m. at the Church of Visitation, Brick. I wish to extend my deepest condolences to Tony's wife Irene, and family. I had the pleasure of working with Tony on a number jobs quite a few of years ago. Although much time has pasted since then, the memories of Tony remain indelible. He was that type of guy. He was a master carpenter and he had a way of making a hard days work a pleasure. He will be missed by all of his fellow brother and sister members of the former Monmouth County Carpenters Local Union 2250.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tony at Ocean Lanes years ago. I enjoyed talking football with him, especially Jets football. He always made me laugh and I have fond memories! I am sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

So many wonderful memories of times spent with Tony; family parties, holidays, watching football, and laughing so hard over your absolute silliness that my jaws would ache. You helped me get through my darkest hours for which I will always be grateful. Rest in peace Tony. Your smile and laughter will always be remembered. Irene, Janet, Robert, Steven and the rest of the Citro family, you have our heartfelt sympathy and prayers.
