Anthony Sgro Obituary

Anthony Paul Sgro

West Long Branch - Anthony Paul Sgro of West Long Branch passed away peacefully December 25, 2017 at home with his loving wife at his side. He was 83 years old. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Anthony Paul Sgro, born on September 14, 1934 in Long Branch, New Jersey to Paul and Mary Sgro. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Rocco, and sisters, Elizabeth and Rosemary Tetti. He is survived by Angela (Suozzo) and four children: son, Paul his wife Patti Ann; daughters: Andrea Loprete and partner Andrew Ferguson, Jodi Bocco, Toni Berbrick her husband Joshua; 9 cherished Grandchildren: Alexandra and Jaclyn Loprete, Emily and Julia Sgro, Anthony and Nicole Bocco and Joshua, Eric and Nina Berbrick. Fondly called Pop by everyone, he cherished the memories of kid's night each Saturday night as did the kids, when there would be planned activities. They all participated with him at their side guiding and instructing them. He made sure they all learned how to sail and shared with them his love of the water.

Anthony was a very proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He and his wife were part founders of Lee's Garage Inc., a Studebaker and Avanti new car dealership, in West Long Branch. The company Lee's Garage, Inc. is now owned and operated by his son, Paul. Anthony was a past president of the West Long Branch Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club. He was a member of the Monmouth Beach Bath and Tennis Club.

He was an avid sailor he loved his sailboat and especially his weekly trips with his family. He also loved to ride his Harley. Most of all he loved being with his family and his dog, Riley.

Tony, as his friends knew him, could always be counted on when in need of help, he was the go to guy. He could make something negative be positive with a quick word of encouragement or a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a true believer….

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28 from 4 - 8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch.
