Charles Michael Sgro

Charles Michael Sgro passed away on June 9, 2025, at the age of 33 in Pompano Beach, Florida. Charles grew up in Middletown and in Fort Lee, New Jersey. As a young adult, he became a citizen of the world; having lived in Europe, New York City, and even the Midwest. He traveled and adventured often, bringing his boundless curiosity and generous spirit to everything he touched throughout his too-brief life.

Michael attended Bergen Catholic Highschool for boys in Oradell, New Jersey. He began his undergraduate studies at the University of Lugano, Switzerland in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. While living in Switzerland, Michael loved jogging, biking and motorcycling through the beautiful mountains. St. Moritz  was a favorite spot. He became fluent in Italian and computer language. He transferred back to the United States to be closer to friends and graduated from Northwestern University. Michael then began working in the tech industry, first on the fashion side and later in healthcare, coding apps that would support millions of users. He most recently worked as a software architect at Health One, where he combined his technical expertise with his passion for helping others and making a difference. He was drawn to building technology for small startups with world-changing potential, believing deeply that innovation could solve meaningful problems and improve lives.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael was a Renaissance soul. He had an eye for art and paintings, an appreciation for fashion and a refined palate for exceptional food, wine, and coffee. His philanthropic heart guided many of his choices, always looking for ways to give back and support causes close to his heart. He enjoyed running marathons, rock climbing, hiking, lifting and golf. At one point, just for fun, he designed art clad streetwear using Artificial Intelligence, he planned to one day start a brand of his own that promoted tech innovations fused with art and fashion. He enjoyed creating art using AI. He was very encouraging to independent budding artists, including his own sister, encouraging them to put their work out into the world.

Those who knew Michael will remember his remarkable kindness and his thoughtful approach to life. He cherished quality time with family and friends, bringing warmth and genuine care to every relationship. His ability to listen, to understand, and to offer support made him a treasured presence in the lives of all who knew him.

Michael is the son of Attorney Charles Vincent Sgro (passed 2005) and is survived by his loving mother, Maria Sgro and devoted older siblings, Vincent and Jennifer. He is a brother-in-law to Zachary Fisher and an uncle to Noah Fisher (3 years old) and to baby Leo, expected to be born later this week. He is the grandson of Vincent Paul Sgro and Shirley Isabelle Sgro of Monmouth Beach, New Jersey and of the late Michele Ditto and his surviving wife Maria Putrino of Italy. Michael has 2 dogs that survive him, Clover, who now resides with his close friend Taichi and Chiara who he rescued in New York City. 

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM at Madonna Church in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests planting a tree or donations to a charity of your choice that supports causes that were meaningful to Michael.

Michael’s legacy lives on in the technology he built, the lives he touched, and the example he set of living with purpose, kindness, and an open heart. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
