Harold was born on June 23, 1927, the first of three children born to Charles and Vergine Najarian in Weehawken, NJ. For the first 5 years of his life, he grew up in a home with his parents, grandparents, 2 great grandmothers and several aunts.
His youth was spent surrounded by a tight knit Armenian family, with many of his cousins becoming his playmates.
While attending Union Hill High School in Union City, NJ, he was drafted by Uncle Sam just shy of graduation towards the end of WWII. While his family was not happy about this, he was extremely proud of his service to our country. After serving honorably in the Army, he returned home and completed his high school education.
He worked for his father in the family grocery store business finishing his career at Kings Super Market.
Through his outgoing and friendly personality, Harold maintained friendships that lasted for a life time with his cousins, school buddies, and neighbors. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 142 of Maywood and the Ridgefield Senior Citizens.
Harold enjoyed spending time at the beach: swimming, fishing, and tanning in the sun. He also enjoyed traveling, the NY Yankees, and NY Giants. Perhaps his most favorite thing was playing poker. Whether it was with family or friends, he was always ready to join a game.
He will be missed by so many especially his nieces and nephews.
