Barbara Goodman Kern, of Lakewood, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at her home. Bobbie loved life and was beloved by all she knew and touched. As a teacher for 30 years in the Watchung, NJ public schools, she touched hundreds of children's lives with love and compassion. She loved the ballet and theatre, and was active in her Jewish community. She was a mensch. Wife of the late Roy L. Kern, sister to Ruth Schiffman and the late Mitzi Nochenson, mother of Robert Kern, Bruce Osterweil, Scot Osterweil, Neil Osterweil, and Jeffrey Kern. Mother-in-law and second Mom to Tina Kern, Patricia Furlong, Marcia Hulley Osterweil, Nancy Baron, and Janet Morison. Grandma to TJ Santucci, Sharon Osterweil, Jonathan Prupis Kern, Willie Osterweil, Cassady Osterweil, Jeannette Osterweil, Beth Anne Avezov, Allison Santucci, Peter Osterweil, George Osterweil and Byron Osterweil.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Temple Beth Am Shalom, 1235 Hwy. 70, Lakewood. Interment will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Ave., Paramus, NJ 07652. Shiva will be observed at her home, Sunday evening and Monday. Donations in Barbara's honor can be made to the New York City Ballet, c/o David H. Koch Theatre, 20 Lincoln Center, New York, NY 10023; www.nycballet.com. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Belkoff-Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Lakewood.
