Benjamin Charles Dickerson

AGE: 88 • Manahawkin

Benjamin Charles Dickerson, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Seacrest Village Nursing Home, where he resided for the past five years. He was 88. The son of Benjamin Sr. and Florence, Benjamin was born in Hackensack and graduated from high school there before enlisting in the U.S. Navy with his late brother, Donald. From 1942 to 1946, Benjamin traveled the world as he served aboard the USS Philadelphia and USS Providence as a Gunner's Mate, Third Class. In the years following, Benjamin married his wife, Anne, who he celebrated 65 years with before her death in June 2010. He built a career as an electrician and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed trout fishing the Flatbrook in NJ with his son, Richard, and deep sea fishing in the Atlantic. Fulfilling a lifelong desire of his, Benjamin built his dream home in Manahawkin, where he later retired near his greatest passion, the ocean.

Benjamin is survived by his daughter, Barbara Sammon; his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Marsha Dickerson; his granddaughters, Kristin Sammon Husband and Lindsay Sammon; his grandsons, Jason, Joshua and Jesse Dickerson; and his great-granddaughters, Siena and Keira Dickerson.

He will always be remembered as a loving and gentle man, who touched the hearts of all who knew him.

A viewing will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28, with a service at 5 p.m. at Maxwell Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin. In lieu of flowers, the family would sincerely appreciate donations to the American Stroke Association.
