Bernard Keelen

AGE: 71 • Middletown

Bernard, "Bernie D. Keelen," 71, of Middletown passed away at his home with his family by his side on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Bernie was born on March 20, 1943. In High School Bernie was an avid football player, a golden glove boxer, and he also ran track. After high school Bernie enlisted in the United States Army. After leaving honorably discharged, he became an iron worker. He later started his own general contracting company (Bernie Keelen & Sons) and also co-owned Country Sudser Car Wash.

Bernie is predeceased by his parents, Patrick & Sarah, as well as his brothers, Pat, Jackie and sister, Helen Ann Lang. Bernie was the beloved husband of Linda for 49 wonderful years. He is also survived by his children, Bernard P. Keelen and his wife Georgette of Beachwood, his daughter, Shannon and her husband Bill Baillie of Long Branch, and also his daughter, Kristen Keelen of Long Branch. He was also the loving brother of Bobby and Tommy and sisters, Ruthie Kaufman and Kay Falco. Bernie is also the devoted Pop to his grandchildren, Billy, Hunter, Keelen, Myles, Bradie, Bo and Jake. He loved his dog, Snoopy who was by his side day and night.

Bernie loved his backyard and spent many hours with his children and grandchildren swimming in the summer, bird watching, gardening, and loved all his flowers. He especially loved being with his family and going on family vacations. He would always have everyone laughing. He loved starting his day having a cup of coffee at his favorite local spot. Bernie was kind to everyone, always saying hello to everyone and has made many friends in his lifetime. Bernie had an infectious smile and the biggest heart. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bernie will be reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home, 1735 Route 35, Middletown, NJ on Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, June 9, 2014 at St. Ann's RC Church in Keansburg at 10:15 am. Private Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to VNA Services.
