Christopher Campione Sr.

AGE: 95 • Long Branch

Christopher Campione Sr., 95, of Long Branch, died peacefully at home, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013. Born in Sicily, Italy, Christopher and his wife Mary moved to Long Branch in 1947. They left Italy with ten dollars and arrived with only five cents left. He was a communicant of Holy Trinity R.C. Church, Long Branch. He owned and operated Campione Construction, retiring in 1983. He was very proud of the following accomplishments, building his own home in Long Branch, his love of cooking and dancing receiving the Christopher Columbus Club, "American All Award" on May 31, 1971 for the erection and completion of the Christopher Columbus Memorial and Fountain at Slocum Park, Long Branch. He was instrumental in changing the design for the Permanent Handicap Parking Permit for which he received recognition from Senator Joseph Palaia. He was involved in the following organizations; IAMA, Long Branch and Oakhurst, Amerigo Vespucci, Long Branch and the Bricklayers and Allied Craftman Union Local 8 or 5. During his involvement with the IAMA, he was invited by the Mayor of Florence, Italy to represent the organization.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Siciliano Campione in 2001. Surviving are his sons and their wives, Christopher Campione Jr. and Carol of West Long Branch and Joseph and Deanna of Oceanport; grandchildren, Christopher Campione, Andrew Campione, Joseph Campione and Melissa Campione; and great-grandchildren, Dennis Campione, John Campione, Christopher IV, and Alexa Campione.

A vistiation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16 at the Hoffman Funeral Home, 415 Broadway, Long Branch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Holy Trinity R.C. Church of Christ the King Parish. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.

My deepest condolences go out to the entire Campione family. Mr. Christopher Campione, Sr. was not only a great man but a personal friend of mine and will be missed dearly. Rest In Peace my friend!

Mr. Campione was my brother in laws father. I have known him for more than 30 years. He was always a very wonderful person to me.He always made me laugh and we had many great talks together. He leaves behind a beautiful loving family. I will miss him very much!

My uncle and godfather will remain in my heart always. So many beautiful memories of my childhood and adulthood are blessings he was part of throughout the years. He is now with many of our loved ones in Heaven.
