Daniel O'Neil Obituary

Daniel James O'Neil

Freehold

Daniel James O'Neil, born Dec. 26, 1947, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015. Dan died peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones after a brief battle with cancer. Dan was born in Boston and moved to New Jersey while in the 8th grade. Dan attended high schools in Westfield, NJ, Peekskill Military Academy in New York, and Mayer High School in Arizona. Dan moved to Freehold in 1990 with his lifelong friend, Jeffrey Jones, and the "odd couple" pair were the source of endless entertainment. Dan was a steel salesman all his working life, working for several different companies throughout New Jersey. An avid golfer, accomplished pilot, and world traveler, Dan visited 7 continents before he finally found real happiness when he met his wife of over 6 years Xiaowei. They succeeded with great difficulty, in her moving to Freehold and becoming a U.S. citizen. Nothing can compare to the happiness and love they shared together for the 6 inseparable years they spent together. Dan also enjoyed the support and companionship of a small group of loyal friends in Freehold.

Dan is predeceased by his parents, and sister, Shannon O'Neil, who died in 1992. His sister, Martha Braun of Camden, Maine, and his brother, Glenn of Hillsborough, NC, survive him. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Danny was an amazing man. He was my uncle Jeff s best friend and he was truly like a second father to me. He taught so many things over the years that I lived with him. Some of my favorite times with him when i was a little girl were when we were washing the Corvette listening to TLC waterfalls dancing and singing like fools. I have too many memories and stories to tell. I loved him very much and am happy that he gets to join the king and take back up their rummy matches. He will never be forgotten.
