David Martin Noyes, 81, of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, passed away on May 3, 2017. He was born in Mineola, NY. David was the only child of Lois Martin Noyes and George Ellsworth Noyes, both of whom predeceased him.

David grew up in Great Neck, NY where his Father was a high school Biology Teacher and Principal. David obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont and a Master's Degree in Science from Fairleigh Dickenson University.

David was an Army Officer with the Army Security Agency for 2 years. He worked as an Army Civilian for 37 years and was the Chief of the Electronic Warfare Laboratory Signals Intelligence Division when he retired. David was a recognized expert in the area of Signals Intelligence with military service in the US Army Security Agency and as a civilian for the Electronic Warfare Laboratory, the Electronic Warfare, Reconnaissance, and Surveillance Directorate and its successor organization, the Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate. After his retirement, his fundamental understanding of the technical foundations of SIGINT resulted in his selection as an instructor to teach new employees of the Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate about SIGINT. His legacy lives through the many people he taught.

David received an InfoAge Wall of Honor award in 2009 for "Exceptional contributions to the defense of the United States." (http://infoage.org/david-noyes/).

He was an active supporter of the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as his children were members of those organizations. His hobbies were ham radio (K2AZY), wood carving and fishing, gardening, and telling bad puns. He loved teaching his children Morse code and codebreaking and making, and about the basics of science, especially electronics and biology. He, like his father, was also a talented poet, and wrote poignantly about the intersections of science, nature, and the human condition. He was a voracious reader, and loved music of all kinds, including B.B. King, Billie Holiday, Dave Brubeck, and Philip Glass. He enjoyed kayaking, running, camping and bicycling. He also loved his beloved canine and feline companions, and was an avid bird watcher. David could not bear to kill mice, bugs, or spiders that strayed into the house, and always gently removed them outside.

David was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County in Lincroft. He served on the Board of Trustees and Grounds Maintenance Committee.

David ("Call me Dave") wanted to be known as a loving Father and Husband and a man who did his best to have the best electronic equipment made for our Army. He succeeded on all counts. We all miss him and think of him every day. He told us once that he believed he will never die, as long as he lives on in our hearts and thoughts, and he shall.

David is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia Townsend Noyes; his four children Carl Noyes and his wife Wendy, Peter Noyes, Jill Burden and her husband Jonathan, and Andrea Noyes and her husband Kevin Lenzo; his grandchildren Cory, Craig & his wife Sara, Benjamin, Jack, Anthony, Molly, Sophie, Owen and Jay; great-grandchildren Ashea, Solomon and Piper; his beloved cousins, Vermont in-laws, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County, 1475 W. Front St, Lincroft, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to UNICEF. The Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank is entrusted with the arrangements.
