Daymon Thatch Obituary

Daymon W. Thatch

Manasquan - Daymon W. Thatch, 81 of Manasquan passed away suddenly Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick with his devoted wife at his side.

Born in Chicago, Ill., Daymon was raised in Highland Park, NJ, and during his life resided in College Park, Md., Piscataway, NJ and since 2001, Manasquan, NJ.

He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Rutgers University and his Ph.D from the University of Maryland in 1969.

Dr. Thatch was a Professor at Rutgers University for 32 years before retiring in 2001. Daymon believed in the transformative power of education, and he continued to support and root for Rutgers until his final day.

His love of family was evident to all who knew him and was a guiding force in his life. Beneath his more serious public persona, the beloved husband, father and grandfather was often playful and fun in his private life, and he reserved his silliest behavior for an opportunity to make a child laugh or a baby smile.

As a resident of Manasquan, he was a Communicant of St. Denis RC Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Rev. John F. Welsh Council # 3231, of the Parish.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years Elizabeth "Betty" Fanning Thatch, his beloved children; Linda Skibik and husband George, Susan Fastenau and husband John, Peter Thatch and wife Sherrill and David Thatch and wife Susan, and his cherished 11 grandchildren: Jack, Sarah, James, Ryan, Thomas, Ellie, Casey, Sydney, Andrew, Nicholas and Grace.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 10:00am at St. Denis RC Church, 90 Union Ave., Manasquan. Committal will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers donations are requested to Embrace Kids Foundation, (http://give.embracekids.org/donate), 121 Somerset Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901, in memory of Dr. Thatch.

Great memories of Dr Thatch and Mrs Thatch and great memories from Rutgers pool and college and st Joe's days with Linda, Susie, Pete and Dave. Dr Thatch was a great swim timer and a great professor and great guy. Loved his laugh and personality. Great man. Love to the whole Thatch family from the the whole Newman family.
