Dear Mr. Levinson,
Thank you for spending so many years as my principal at Freehold Learning Center. Though I was only a young girl at the time, I still remember how happy I felt whenever your presence lit up the hallways. You carried such warmth-your smile reached your eyes, and your gentle soul made the school thrive under your leadership.
Even then, I recognized you as one of the rare, genuine human beings whose light was undeniable. Rest in peace-you truly were one of God´s beautiful gifts to this world.

I was a room-mate of Dennis in the 60s at SUNY New Paltz. He and his first wife rode together in my VW to Florida.

July 9, 2017. Dennis and I were college roommates for several years, starting in September, 1964. In addition we were swim team colleagues and worked together as life guards at the college pool in the evenings and on weekends. You don't live with someone for 4 years without developing a close bond, and resulting friendship. He was in the education program and I was liberal arts. After graduation we tried to stay in contact but he lived in the Hudson Valley and I lived in NYC, so distance was a problem. I was also in law school, which made things difficult. We would get together a few times after graduation, but as time moved on, so did we. I had lunch today with a fellow swimmer, team mate, and class mate, and learned that Dennis had passed. Needless to say, I was shocked. I now deeply regret that we did not stay in touch. I remember his comment in the Fortieth Class of '68 Reunion pamphlet, his e-mail address, "lifeguard forever". He truly loved being a life guard, and I can honestly say, that we never lost anyone in The New Paltz pool, thanks to his presence. I was hoping that I would see him at the Fiftieth Class of '68 reunion next year, but that will never be. Good-bye dear friend, team mate, room mate, and fellow life guard. May your talents be put to good use, and my prayers will always be with you.

Dennis Levinson
Mentor, role model, and most importantly, lifelong friend. A person filled with love; a genuine person - without pretension, with passion, with generosity.
The thought of you will always bring a smile to my face and warmth to my heart.

It was a privilege to have worked with Dennis. Before coming to our district, I recall visiting his former school and talking to those with whom he worked. There was nothing but praise - teachers actually cried that he was leaving. I was fortunate enough to experience what they had. Condolences to Deb and family.

Dennis and his brother Michael were New York City Parks Department lifeguards with me at Riis Park in 1967 when I first started on the beach. They were both extraordinary, exemplary, unforgettable role models. I still recall their kindness and unshakeable integrity. They were powerful swimmers who saved the lives of many people in the turbulent surf. They dutifully supported their mother with rent money each pay period. I regret we did not keep in contact over the years and sorry to hear Dennis has left us too early. I am sure he has a legacy to be proud of as an educator and parent. My sincere condolences to his family.
