Dominic Loperfido Obituary

Dominic Loperfido

Neptune - Dominic Loperfido, 93, of Neptune, passed away Saturday evening, June 9, 2018, surrounded by loved ones at his home, where he resided for nearly 66 years.

Born February 28, 1925 in Allenhurst, NJ, he was the son of Italian immigrants, Vito and Fannie Loperfido. Dominic served in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant before his honorable discharge. He is a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, where he earned several commendations and medals, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for valor. He was a member of the Neptune Township Board of Education and served as commander at American Legion Post 346. He enjoyed cooking meals for his family, spending time with his grandchildren, following local news and sports, walking along the boardwalk, and exploring the country from coast to coast. Having worked for the U.S. Postal Service for nearly 35 years before retiring, his memory for navigation was unparalleled. Among family members and friends, Dominic's home was the gathering place for meals, celebrations, holidays, and countless warm and boisterous conversations.

Dominic is survived by his wife, Ludmila Loperfido; son, Victor James Loperfido; daughter-in-law, Martha Serrano Loperfido; sisters, Connie Dawson and Louise Loperfido; and grandchildren, Mark Loperfido, Jeffrey Loperfido (and wife, Kristin), and Timothy Loperfido.

In addition to his parents, Dominic was preceded in death by his wife, Marion "Trudy" Loperfido, and brother, Frank "Frankie" Loperfido.

The family is deeply grateful for Dominic's friends and neighbors—including Art and Mary Martin, Bill and Lisa White, the Hagermans, the Kilinskis, and Tom Gelay—for their friendship and kindness over the years, especially during Dominic's final days. The family is also appreciative of the nurses and staff of Meridian Hospice for their compassionate care.

Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Saturday, June 16, 2018, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Ely Funeral Home in Neptune. A funeral service will follow at 11:30AM at St. Anne Cemetery in Wall Township. The family will be hosting a reception after the funeral, specific time and location to follow.

Sail on, Dominick. This is about the end of the OLd Guys on Sunday morning cleanup crew. You were a fighter and a loyal friend to all, especially Bill and me. You will not be forgotten. Welcome home, Soldier.
