EDITH DEVOE
AGE: 84 NEW BRUNSWICK
Edith (Hughes) DeVoe, 84, died Sunday, July 18, 2010 at her home. Born in New York City, she lived in Highland Park for many years before moving to New Brunswick three years ago. Edith was a cadet nurse during WWII, received her RN degree from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, New York City and her BS degree in Sociology from University College, Rutgers University, New Brunswick. She was a longtime member of Christ Church, New Brunswick, where she served on the Altar Guild and Vestry. Generous with her time and energy, Edith volunteered for the American Red Cross and the VNA and was a trustee of the Francis E. Parker Memorial Home, subsequently serving as chairman of the board. She also served for 32 years as trustee of Woods Services, Langhorne, PA, and at the time of her death she was trustee emeritus. She had been a member of the New Brunswick Study Club since 1968.
Her husband, George W. DeVoe died in 2004. Her four children, Edith, Susan, George, Jr., and Alice survive her as do six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and Miss Doris.
Edith H. DeVoe's full and joyful life will be celebrated on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Christ Church, corner of Neilson and Church Streets, New Brunswick. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Woods Services, P.O. Box 36, Langhorne, PA 19047. Arrangements are under the direction of the Quackenboss Funeral Home, New Brunswick.
