Elizabeth Readie Obituary
Red Bank - Elizabeth "Liz" Readie, 79, of Red Bank, passed away December 26, 2018 surrounded by family at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Originally from Roselle Park, she graduated from Roselle Park High School, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Jack Readie. Together they were the proud owners of Readie's Fine Foods in Red Bank for 42 years, forging lifelong friendships with customers and fellow business owners. After "retiring," she worked part time at Red Bank Chocolate Shoppe for 16 years; she loved her second work family, as well as the almond butter crunch. She volunteered extensively throughout her life, most recently with Holiday Express.
A communicant of St. James Church, Liz lived her faith daily and it sustained her as she bravely battled a rare and aggressive blood cancer. Liz may have stood only 4-ft-10-inches tall, but she was a mighty force. She was an excellent cook and baker, could sew or craft anything, and created beautiful flower gardens. Her family was the center of her world and nothing gave her more pleasure than having everyone gathered around her table. Liz and Jack enjoyed annual trips to Bermuda and Cape May for years, but lately preferred the sands and camaraderie of Ship Ahoy Beach Club in Sea Bright.
Liz was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Marion Quartararo. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Jack, and two daughters and their husbands, Lisa and David Mayer, Red Bank, and Jill and David D'Agostino, Wayne, PA. She is also survived by four beloved grandchildren, Emily, Mark, Hannah, and Julie, and a sister-in-law, Judy Cook, Florida. She was "Aunt Lish" to her nieces and nephews, and will be deeply missed by many cousins, neighbors and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 2, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 3 at 11 a.m. at St. James RC Church, 94 Broad St., Red Bank, followed by interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. In appreciation of the compassionate care provided by her nurses and physicians, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Elizabeth Readie to Abramson Cancer Center, www.pennmedicine.org/cancer/giving

I worked for Liz and her husband in the late 90's. Liz was a wonderfully talented woman. She had this brilliant charm of always being pleasant and cheerful, in a genuine way, even when she wasn't. Liz baked desserts that to this day I haven't seen matched. Most of all she was incredibly insightful and aware of exactly who was who in the store. I'll never forget how she took her husband to the back after he gave us deli workers our "Christmas bonus" and schooled him in a lesson in class. He came moping back, head down,with another suitable hundred dollars.

We are so sad to hear that Liz left us. She was such a joy to work with at Readie's. Her laugh and smile lifted many a busy, stressful day for all of us. She was one of the very special people that I was blessed to know in this life.
Even though we haven't seen her in a little while, knowing that she's no longer out there, making someone's day a bit brighter, somehow seems to dim the sunshine just a bit.
Our deepest sympathies to Jack and everyone in Liz's extended family and all who had the distinct pleasure to have known her.
