Emily Reed, age 90, of Holiday Heights section of Berkeley Twp, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at Community Medical Center. Born in Hastings on the Hudson, NY, Emily lived in Staten Island for many years. She attended Port Richmond High School where she is a member of the permanent honor roll and worked at Halloran Hospital during WW II. She moved into this area in 1962. She was a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Toms River.

Emily is preceded in death last month by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert Reed; her brothers, Cas, Frank, John, Joe and Peter Filipowicz and her sister, Jeanette Patterson. She is survived by her children, Robert "Bob," Marilyn Bloss, Jane, Richard, Stanley, Thomas and James Reed; her sister, Ann Kosinski; her brother, Walter Filipowicz; 13 grandchildren, David, Susan, Amy, Jonathan, Craig, Erik, Lori, Sarah, Nicholas, Tyler, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Emily; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, December 23rd, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River, NJ 08757. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10:30am, Monday, December 24th, 2012 at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Toms River. Burial will follow at the New Jersey Veteran Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the Van Dyke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755-6423. The family thanks the staff of Community Medical Center, and in particular those in the ICU and Hospice Units, for the care and compassion provided to our mother and father in their final days.
