Estelle Viner Obituary

Estelle Helen Viner

AGE: 91 • Toms River

Estelle Helen Viner, 91, died peacefully on November 5, 2014 with her family at her side. She was born on March 28, 1923 in Newark, NJ to Stella and Joseph Murphy. Early in life, she became known as "Honey," a nickname that remained long into her adult life.

Estelle was educated in the Newark, NJ public school system. Just before the start of World War II, she was employed by the William Driver Company and later Engelhard Industries in Newark. It was there that she met her beloved husband of 59 years, Allen. They were married on June 13, 1942. Shortly thereafter, Allen began his US Army tour of duty and was in combat in Africa, France and Italy for the next three and a half years.

In 1951, they moved to Green Brook, NJ where they raised their family before retiring to Toms River, NJ in 1980. Estelle, always a true lady, was a woman of great Catholic faith and proud of her Irish heritage. She enjoyed time with her family, trips to Florida, New England and especially, the Jersey Shore, where she passed her love of the beach to each of her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted Mother and Grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Estelle was predeceased by her husband, Allen in 2001, her sisters June, Elizabeth and brother, Joseph Jr. She is survived by her children Robert, of Baltimore, MD; Barbara Christensen of Aurora, CO; Joan Stramaglia and Husband James of Ortley Beach, NJ; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The family gratefully acknowledges The Stein Hospice for their compassionate care, and, Estelle's dedicated nurses and aides at Bridgeway Care and Rehabilitation Center, Hillsborough, NJ.

Family will receive friends on Monday November 17, 2014 from 3-8pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 809 Central Ave. Seaside Park, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday November18, 2014 at 10am at St. Catharine of Siena RC Church Seaside Park, NJ.
