Ewald Funk Obituary

Ewald August Funk

Born in Germany on December 16, 1932 to Isidor and Sofie Funk.

He died on January 16, 2021

Ewald was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife Juliane of over 66 years, daughter Connie Pandolfo Russo with husband Jim, son Ronnie Funk with wife Kathleen Brown Funk, grandchildren Teresa Pandolfo Sarubbi with husband Zach, Kellie Funk and Stefan Funk.

Ewald is survived by an extensive family in Germany. Sisters Wilma John, Benedikta Hiller, Roswitha Wisniewsky and brother Norbert Funk and all their famlies.

Ewald came to this country in 1954 and was joined by his fiance and her family in 1955. They married in Twin Falls, Idaho and relocated to New Jersey after he was drafted. He proudly served overseas in the US Army and was stationed in France. He returned to this country in 1958 and started a family. He was a hard working man and worked as a sheet metal mechanic. He spent his free time planning family outings and loved to drive to Sunrise Lake in PA, where the family would spend time fishing and exploring.

He loved, loved, loved spending time with his grandchildren, was always first in line for bottle feeding and the babies felt safe in his arms. When the grandchildren were born, he became "Poppi". He will live on in the stories that we tell and the memories that we share. He will forever be missed.

"All the pain and grief is over,

Every restless tossing passed;

I am now at peace forever,

Safely home in Heaven at last."

Rest in Peace Poppi.

God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around you
and whispered "Come to Me."
With tearful eyes we watched you,
and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
Your golden heart stopped beating,
Your hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Rest now Ewald. We will remember you. Love Karen and Jim Sakers
