Ferdinand Naekel Obituary
AGE: 84 • Manchester Township
Ferdinand August Naekel, Jr., 84, of Manchester Township died Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and had resided in Freehold before moving to Manchester. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was employed at Merrill Lynch, Somerset before his retirement. Mr. Naekel was a member of American Legion Post No. 166, Lakewood. He was a crossword puzzle and trivia enthusiast. He was a dedicated father and husband and loving grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis A. Naekel in 1997; a son, Gregory A. Naekel in 2010; and a brother, John Naekel.
Surviving are two sons, Glen E. Naekel and his wife Gina and Peter D. Naekel; a daughter, Tracey Detwiler; two sisters, Lillian Velez and Trudy Spinelli; and grandchildren, Maggie, Sarah, Amanda, Carly, Lauren, and Jessica.
The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. Memorial donations to the Wounded Warriors Foundation would be appreciated.
