Herman Kassel Obituary

Herman K. Kassel Jr.

AGE: 82 • Toms River

Herman K. Kassel Jr. passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at home with his loving wife Shirley by his side. He was 82.

Born on January 27, 1935 in Newark, Herman grew up in Elizabeth. Shirley and Junior met during their High School years when he attended Thomas Jefferson High in Elizabeth, and have been inseparable since. Junior went on to study at Seton Hall University where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Education. He lived in Bridgewater for 26 years before retiring and moving to Toms River in 1989. Starting as a young boy playing soccer in a German league at Farcher's Grove in Union; he continued to play soccer at Seton Hall University during his college years. His passion for the sport was shown through his 18 years of coaching varsity soccer at Elizabeth High School. He enjoyed nothing more than watching his son and grandchildren play soccer.

He is predeceased by his parents; Herman Kassel and Gretel (Gund) Kassel. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Shirley (Smith) Kassel; his son Timothy H. Kassel and his wife Gina; his daughter Donna Jean Kassel; his grandchildren Jennifer LoCampo and her husband Joseph; Lauren Harp and her husband Brandon; Matthew Kassel and his wife Renée; Eric Fenske and his wife Michelle; Kyle Fenske, and Makayla Fenske; his great grandchildren Mario and Carmelo LoCampo; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Aunt Shirley,

Our deepest condolences to you and your family. Uncle Jr. was a wonderful fun loving man and it was a pleasure to know him and spend time with him when we were in New Jersey.

He will be missed by many, but he is in a better place now and not suffering any longer. Much love to you and sorry we are not with you at this difficult time, but you are in our thoughts and prayers.

With love,
