Hugh Prentice Obituary
AGE: 81 • Hazlet
Hugh John Prentice, 81, of Hazlet, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012. He was born in Brooklyn, NY. Hugh worked as a chemical engineer for Hercules in Parlin for 30 years, retiring in 1988. After retiring Hugh worked as a toll collector for the Garden State Parkway. He was a member of the Good Samaritan Society at St. Ann's Church in Keansburg.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Prentice; 2 sons & daughters-in-law, Dr. Hugh and Maria Prentice and Thomas and Therese Prentice; 3 daughters & sons-in-laws, Kathleen and Henry Handel, Jeanne Marie and Peter Rotolo and Susan and Charles Zielinski; brother, Stephen Prentice and 12 grandchildren.
Hugh was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Garafalo and parents, Hugh Joseph and Mary Prentice.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Monday, July 23, 2012 at 9:15 am at St. Ann's RC Church, 311 Carr Ave., Keansburg.

I didn't know you for that long or very well but I know that everyone loved you so I decided to,too . I wish I could've gotten to know you better before you passed. I'm going to miss you even if I didn't know you that well, rest easy Mr. Prentice. Prayers go out to your family.

We've known the Prentice family since we moved from the Bronx to Staten Island. From there our families merged - Mr & Mrs P became like our uncle and aunt. Together they brought five children into the world who are beautiful monuments to their love. I am deeply sorry for their pain. We share it. In the Eastern Church it is customary to pray, "May God grant him eternal memory" because, we believe that if God were to "forget" us, we would cease to be. But, God never stops loving, forgiving or remembering. May Hugh Prentice's memory be eternal - and his joy complete! With love and gratitude, Tim

Mr. Prentice was a great friend to our family for many, many years. He and my father were best friends from 'The Old New York Days' until my father's sudden death back in 1986. He and his wife Ann continued to be true friends to my mother and made routine visits to her in Maryland up until Mr. Prentice was no longer able to travel. He was a good man who will be greatly missed. I sincerely hope and pray that my Dad and Mr. Prentice are once more enjoying a good laugh together somewhere wonderful befitting them both.
