Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stith Funeral Home - Gallatin on Jan. 24, 2026.
Charles "Pinky" Howard Prentice of
Jameson, MO went to be with his savior on Friday, January 23, 2026, peacefully at his home in
Jameson, MO at the age of 85 after a hard-fought battle with kidney disease.
He was born on January 12, 1941, in
Kansas City, MO to Clyde and Ellen Prentice. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1959 and married the love of his life, Daisy Dykes on May 12, 1961. They began their lives together in
Kearney, MO later moving to
Gallatin, MO to raise their family.
In 2007 he retired from Home Valu in
Des Moines, IA as the Floor Covering Installation Manager. He worked there for 20 years during the week returning to his farm in
Jameson, MO each weekend to live out his dream.
Pinky was a man of many talents, but farming was his passion. He loved to spend hours working the ground, putting the crops in and harvesting. Even when he was unable to do the actual farming, he could be found sitting in his truck, giving "advice" to anyone that would listen. He spent many hours talking farm talk with neighbors and was always up for a good prank on his friend Tommy. He loved to "take a ride around the farm" right up to the end.
Pinky enjoyed riding dirt bikes, playing cards with friends, dancing, listening to classic country music, farming and spending time with his grandkids. He was a man of Christ, led bible studies, taught Sunday School, ministered at Lay Renewal Weekends, and even ventured to Venezuela on a mission trip with his Baptist Church family to build a church.
Pinky was known as Grandad by many. He loved to take his grandkids and great grandkids to the coffee shop each weekend as long as he was able to go. Spending time with all of his grandkids brought him so much joy. Pinky loved watching each of them grow up and do their thing, whether that was sports, music or farming alongside him.
Pinky will be missed by many, loved forever and never forgotten.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Daisy Darlene Prentice; three children, Curtis Lee Prentice of Winston, Chad Howard Prentice of Coffey, and Amy Lynette McNeely (Wayne) of
Jameson, MO; six grandkids, Hunter Prentice (Hillaree), Garrett McNeely (Kaley), Kaitlyn Mattis (Isaac), Cali Guttin (Dakota), Macie McNeely, Charlee Prentice (Alex); and 7 Great Grandkids, Ella, Liam and Eli Mattis, Maclane and Mira Guttin, and Hadlee and Hallee Prentice.
Pinky was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Ellen Prentice, two sisters, Mary Moore and Evelyn Riley (Lloyd).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Hickory Creek Cemetery in care of the funeral home. A service celebrating Pinky's life will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin.
