James C. Labita 75 of Leisure Village West, Manchester died Thursday, April 27, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he lived in West Milford, before moving to Manchester in 2005. He was employed for 27 years with the Parks Department for the Village of Ridgewood before retiring in 2004. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-65, primarily aboard the USS Independence, our nation's largest carrier at that time. He belonged to the Fishing, Farmers, and Cooking Clubs all in Leisure Village West. He loved boxing, the N.Y. Yankees, the Chicago Bears, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and sport fishing. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, trips to Atlantic City, the Beach and the Boardwalk. He was a parishioner of St John's Church, Lakehurst. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda (Brady) Labita, a son and daughter in law, James J. and Julie Labita of Oak Ridge, a daughter and son in law, Roseanne and Joseph Nover of Wayne, and 4 grandchildren, Conor, Justin, Morgan, and Cole. Visitation is Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is Tuesday, at 10:00 am at St John's Church, Lakehurst with burial to follow at the Brigadier Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
