James MacDonald Obituary

James E. MacDonald III

Spring Lake - MacDonald, James E. III of Spring Lake, N.J., died peacefully on Friday, January 19 at the age of 98 after a long and full life. He was blessed to know the love of two extraordinary women, Lillian F. Kitterer, the mother of his eight children, deceased May 26, 1995, and Mary Virginia Long, deceased, September 30, 2016. He left a long and fruitful legacy in his eight children, who all survive him: Frederick Donahue, (Jennifer), M. Patricia Donahue (Phil Reilly), James Emmanuel IV (Suzanne deceased), Ann MacDonald (Steve Chappell), Margaret MacDonald (Jack Kimball), Anthony Brennan (John Emmert), Susan Moira (Michael Boyle), and Peter Moran (Jennifer), 27 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Raised in Teaneck, N.J., he attended St. Peter's Prep and LaSalle Military Academy, and was a proud graduate of Georgetown University, Class of 1941. He served in the Army in the Pacific during WWII and spent his career working at the Goodall Rubber Company. After raising his family on Brayton Street in Englewood, N.J, he retired to Spring Lake, N.J. in 1979. He will be remembered rooting on his children at swim meets and hockey games at the Englewood Field Club; meeting with nuns to untangle the latest run-in at St. Cecilia's grammar school; riding the waves on the beach in Avon-by-the-Sea; teeing up to play golf at the Ridgewood Country and Spring Lake Golf Clubs; looking forward to the next Hoya reunion with life-long friends; and beaming with pride and expectation with each new grandchild and great-grandchild. A life well lived. A funeral mass will be held at St. Catherine's Church in Spring Lake New Jersey at 10:30 a.m., Thursday January 25, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.

January 25, 2018

The entire Degnan Family wish to express our sincere condolences for the McDonald Family with news of Dad's passing.

I have fond recollections of having a few drinks one summer afternoon on the front porch as Jim shared stories as well as his interesting life. Jim really enjoyed people, reading the paper on the front porch and most of all he was proud of his children .

Jim will be remembered by us all as gentlemen with a great sense of humor as well as a sincerely kind friend and neighbor.

Sincerely,

The Degnan Family ( Kathleen, Patrice, Tom, Madonna & Michelle)
