James Maloney Obituary

James F Maloney

AGE: 82 • Pine Beach

James F. Maloney, 82, of Pine Beach passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at his home. A lifelong learner and devoted husband and father, he passed while doing two things he loved — reading the latest news while chatting with one of his five children. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he resided in Elizabeth and Avenel before migrating south to Pine Beach with his beautiful wife and three eldest children in 1969. He worked his way up through the ranks of the US Postal Service over his 30-year tenure, beginning as a clerk before ultimately retiring as Postmaster of the Elizabeth Post Office where he led a team of over 500 employees across several branches.

His growing family's move to the Ocean County area was precipitated by his hope for a better life for his children. He worked closely with his brother, building not only houses in Bayville and Ocean Gate, but also their own family residences, and the home of one of James' daughters in Pine Beach. James was a Christian studying a variety of world religions, practicing meditation much of his adult life. His passion for American history was well-known, as he'd often share interesting facts from his studies at family dinners. His family meant the world to him and he lovingly supported his children's and grandchildren's sporting events (yes, even soccer), concerts, plays and parades.

He was the beloved husband of Joyce (Alessi), and loving father of Michael & his wife Traci of Toms River, Maureen & her husband Robert of Kamloops BC, Christine & her husband Jon of Pine Beach, Kate of Jersey City, and Molly & her husband Andrew of Beachwood. Cherished grandfather to Diane, Ethan, Sullivan, David, Olivia, Aidan, and Emma.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation and a memorial service on Friday, November 24, 2017, 4:00-7:00 pm at Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ 08721 (732-269-3100). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).

Bob and I were saddened to hear of Jim's passing. He will be missed by family and friends. Jim will always hold a special place in our hearts. Jim and Joyce were part of our lives when we attended St. Barnabas and were involved in the Open Door Prayer Group. He always had a great smile ... he was very kind and had a great sense of humor. Jim was a friend to many. The last time we saw Jim and Joyce was a few years ago at our children's church on Christmas Eve. We moved to FL thirteen years ago. At church Jim told us he has continued praying for us over the years. We're sure he has a special place in heaven. He was a wonderful man of God. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Joyce and Jim's family. May our Lord surround you with His love, comfort and peace.
Love in Christ,
Bob and Millie Scaglione

Jim was the most kind and loving person we had the privilege to call our friend. We will miss his sharp wit, his love of his family and the Lord. The "Music Ministry" will not be the same without him.
All our love and prayers to Joyce and the entire family. God bless you all.
Much love,

Jim was a dear friend. Always ready with a witty phrase to spar with Bob. We enjoyed our dinners and special times for almost 50 years. It seems impossible that he is not here but we hope he is enjoying his favorite red wine and conversation with his wonderful brothers.

Much love and prayers for Joyce and his great family,
Pat and Bob Hannon
