Jane Gottschalk Obituary

Jane Davis Gottschalk

AGE: 67 • Danbury, CT

Jane deChantal Davis Gottschalk, 67, of Danbury, wife of William R. Gottschalk died on July 24, 2011 at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, N.Y. Mrs. Gottschalk was born July 22, 1944 in Bryn Mawr, Pa., a daughter of the late Russell and Claire (Walker) Davis. She attended Pennsylvania schools and graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Carbondale, Pa. A registered nurse by profession, Jane worked in various hospitals and physician's offices. She was particularly proud of her work at the rehabilitation center at Eagle Hill. In her later years, Jane enjoyed flower arranging and was employed as a designer at Hay Day in Ridgefield. Because of her extraordinary talent, many area residents made special requests for Jane to do their floral arrangements. An area resident since 1992 coming from Toms River, NJ, she was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish of Ridgefield.
Jane was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Truly she embodied "Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of children." She enjoyed the time providing for her husband and children and the greatest joy in her life was time spent with her grandchildren who knew and loved her as their ""Mimi"". Jane was an incredibly generous and compassionate woman. She was always ready to support, mentor and give of herself to family, friends and those she met through her time in various organizations. Those who were lucky enough to know Jane were truly blessed by her loving and joyful spirit. It is impossible to put into words how very much she was loved and how much she loved in return. One of her favorite quotes from George Eliot was: "What do we live for if not to make life less difficult for each other?" Did Jane not live to that end? For all of those who knew her and were close to her, there will be an enormous void in our lives. She will be missed by everyone whose life she touched and she will remain in our hearts and minds forever.
In addition to her husband, Bill of 45 years, she is survived by three sons, Michael W. Gottschalk and his fiancée, Kiley J. Morrison of Fairfield, David R. Gottschalk and his wife, Jocelyn of Middletown, NJ and Matthew P. Gottschalk of Danbury; a daughter, Jennifer C. Carosella and her husband, Christopher of Laurel Springs, NJ; a sister, Winifred Cable and her husband, Clark of Union Dale, PA; and five grandchildren, Christian, Noah, McKenna, Brady, and Elle.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, Conn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28 in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Rd., Ridgefield, Conn., with the Rev. Joseph A. Prince officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

jane was the nurse in the office she went to....my mother was very ill and Mrs. Gottschalk was extremely passionate and caring towards her.....even when my mother passed away, she came and offered her condolences to my brother and I and had a mass said for my mother....She was truly an amazing woman.....I now express my condolences to her family and say how blessed you were to have had such a wonderful woman in your lives......She is now an angel in heaven smiling down watching over her family like her beautiful picture in the obituary....So sorry for your loss.
