ETTERS Jean S. Downs, 93, died at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Frey Village Retirement Center in Middletown. She was the wife of the late Vance B. Downs. Born April 15, 1922, in South Fork, a daughter of the late James S. and Mary (Graham) Jarvie, she was a Registered Nurse, serving in the U.S. Army as a Nurse during WWII, and retired from Dr. Harry Brook's office in New Cumberland. She was a member of Fishing Creek, Salem United Methodist Church. Mrs. Downs is survived by a son, James B. Downs and his wife, Lyn of Manchester; two daughters, Connie L. Fetrow Hitz and her husband, Jay of Etters, and Sandra J. Frye, and her husband, Ron of Dover; a son-in-law, David Slaseman of York Haven; seven grandchildren, Jean Olson, Douglas Downs, Michael Slaseman, Tanya Haller, Terrie Seiders, Fallon Church, and Coleby Frye; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara A. Slaseman, and a great-grandson, Frankie. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 60 S. Main St., Manchester, with The Rev. Sherry Miller, Chaplain of Frey Village Retirement Center, officiating. Viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will be in Suburban Memorial Gardens, with military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
