Joan Anderson Obituary

Joan Marie Anderson

formerly of Spring Lake

Joan Marie Anderson, nee Rossiter, formerly of Spring Lake, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. She was born and raised in Brooklyn and moved to Spring Lake not long after she married Bob Anderson. Joan spent many happy years with her family in Spring Lake before recently moving to Wall Township.

Joan is predeceased by her husband, Bob Anderson; her parents, Tom and Matilda Rossiter; her sisters, Eileen Corrar, Frances Hanley, and Maggie Twomey. Surviving are her daughter, Dawn Anderson Conn and her husband, Bill; her son, Russell Anderson and his fiancée, Michelle Sterling; her daughter, Valarie Anderson, and Bruce Hoffman; her son, Glenn Anderson and his wife, Marlene; and the sunshine of her life, her granddaughter, Corinne. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Mary Ellen Grillo; her sister, Barbara Kelly; her brothers, Jackie Rossiter, Michael Rossiter, and Tommie Rossiter; as well as many loving nieces and nephews, including Thomas Anthony Grillo.

Joan attended Bishop McDonald High School in Brooklyn, and after raising her children, she continued her education in New Jersey. She worked at CECOM at Fort Monmouth for 17 years. She worked her way up to a Grade Level GS-11, which is the level at which she retired. Joan loved to travel, play golf, swim and walk. But her true passions were reading a great novel and tap dancing. She is now "dancing with the star."

Visitation will be from 2 - 7 PM on Sunday, March 30 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 AM at St. Catharine R.C. Church, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution of your time to a loved one.
