Joan Jacobsen Obituary
AGE: 82 • Manasquan
Joan A Jacobsen, 82 of Manasquan, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ. Born and raised in Westerleigh, Staten Island she was a graduate of Curtis High School and the University of the State of New York where she received her nursing degree. Joan worked as a private duty nurse while raising her children and then as a psychiatric nurse at Bayley Seton hospital in SI, NY until her retirement at age 73.
She married Arthur L. Jacobsen, also born and raised in Westerleigh, SI in 1956 after meeting at a dance where he swept her off her feet and raised four loving children. She was totally dedicated to her children in all aspects of their lives. Joan's passion for politics was undeniable as well traveling the world, Bocce, and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Joan is survived by her children; Daniel and (Donna) Jacobsen, Ruth and (Richard) Bachmann, Arthur Jacobsen Jr., and Eileen and (Chris) LaMendola, grandchildren; Lauren and (Matthew) DiCerbo, Candice and (Ryan) Garrett, Stephen DeVries, Rebecca and (Christopher) Mazzolini, Daniel Jacobsen Jr, Michael LaMendola, Nicholas Bachmann, Matthew LaMendola and great grandchildren: Abel Garrett, Levi Garrett, and Bellamy DeCerbo, her sisters; Mary Codd and Alice Parker.
Joan was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur L. Jacobsen by just three months, parents John Mahoney and Melinda McGlone Mahoney, her nephews; William Codd and Thomas Olsen and niece; Claudia Parker Lutz.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass on Saturday, July 29,2017 at 10:30am , Church of Saint Martha, RC Church 3600 Herbetsville Road, Point Pleasant, NJ.
The interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery on Staten Island in early September.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to LBDA, Lewy Body Dementia Association, https://www.lbda.org
