AGE: 87 • Toms River
Joan Cottier Kennedy, age 87, of Toms River, New Jersey November 19, 1929 - June 24, 2017. It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on June 24, 2017. Joan was born in White Plains, NY and grew up in Milburn, NJ. Joan and her husband, Hugh, started their lives in Kearny and then Sayreville, NJ. They both cherished the time spent with their family and raising their two children.
Joan worked for the N.J. Bell Telephone Co., Newark, NJ and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Toms River. Joan was Trustee, Secretary and Vice-President of Silver Ridge Park Association in Toms River. Joan enjoyed traveling, photography and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A woman of grace and beauty, Joan will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Joan was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Hugh Kennedy, Jr., and her parents, William Cottier and Lee McLain Cottier and son-in-law Brian Beer. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her children, son, Steven and wife Barbara and daughter, Lee Alison. Her cherished grandchildren Meredith and husband Tom; Steven and wife Christina; Jeffrey and wife Rachel; Brian, Megan and fiancé Carl. Four great-grandchildren Thomas, Charlie, Bruce and Russell.
Family and friends may gather for a Memorial Service on Thursday, June 29 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 129 Chestnut Street in Toms River. Interment will be private at Woodlawn Cemetery in New York. Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street in Manasquan is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Joan's name be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. For more information, please visit www.neary-quinnfuneralhome.com.
