Joan Raine Obituary

Joan L. Raine

Hazlet

Joan L. Raine, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 20, 2015. Joan was born in Weehawken to Anne Marie Shanley and Edward Shanley. She went to high school at St. Joseph's, and went on to study at Dale Carnegie School and Barbizon School of Modeling. Joan worked as a buyer and model for Reid and Reid in NYC. She also worked for Hudson County News and Old Wagon Farm, where she was the voice of the "Pumpkin Family;" a role that brought her great joy. Throughout Joan's life she enjoyed singing and was a member of the Holy Family choir and Sweet Adelines. Joan also enjoyed playing cards and traveling with her friends. She was a Cheerleading Coach for H.Y.A.L. and Volunteered at the Keyport Senior Center in their "Helping Hands" and "Grand Friends" program. She was the Holy Family Senior co-coordinator and ran programs like Line Dancing, The Walking Club, and was Holy Family's "Social Concerns Representative". She worked with the Monmouth County Sheriff's office and started the "ident-adult" program. Joan was proud of her work with the Hazlet JCC and volunteered for years. Joan was known for her passion in helping others. In 1977, she raised money for a child who was struggling with a brain tumor. In 1983, she was a member of the St. Gerard Guild and helped to raise money for a child who was struggling with neurofibromatosis. She was a constant and devoted volunteer for the RAINE Foundation (Reaching All in Need Everyday), and Breast Intentions. She was once asked, "Why do you volunteer so much?" Her reply, "God is happy with me."

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Anne Marie and Edward Shanley, and the love of her life, Vincent G. Raine. Joan is survived by her loving children, Susan and Gene Kiley, Carol and Wolfgang Rech, Patti and Matt Dickens, Marianne and John Ruane, Vincent and Noelle Raine, Joan and Dominick Antonino, and the son she adopted in her heart, Joseph Collins and his wife, Terri Collins. She leaves behind 17 cherished grandchildren, Michael Connolly, Edward Crosby, Kathryn Crosby-Bolen, Matthew Kiley, Patrick Kiley, Allie Rech, Erika Rech, Robert Dickens, Morgan Dickens, Ryan Dickens, Jenny Ruane, Maggie Ruane-LaBarbera, John Ruane, Mike Ruane, Brian Ruane, Vincent Raine, Giovanna Antonino and Emily Antonino, along with 11 adored great grand children. She will be forever missed.
