John Bukovecky, 88, entered into eternal life with his loving family by his side on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Somerset Valley Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Bound Brook. Born in Manville, son of the late Metro and Anna (Papavecz) Bukovecky, he has been a lifelong resident of Manville. John attended Bound Brook High School and on February 2, 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a Private 1st Class in the 90th Infantry Division. While serving in the Army, John was in Patton's Third Army and while in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre of Operations, he was a proud recipient of The Bronze Star Medal for his achievement in ground combat against the armed enemies. Having faithfully served his country during WWII, John was honorably discharged January 6, 1946. After his time served in the military, John began working at Johns-Manville Corporation. In 1986, after over forty-two years of employment and a longtime member of their Quarter Century Club, John retired as a pipefitter. In 1949, John became a proud member of Manville Fire Company #2. During his years of service to his community, and to date, the oldest active member in the department, John was elected Manville Fire Chief from 1977-78 and has been a Fire Marshall since 1980. A lifetime member of the Thomas J. Kavanaugh, VFW Post #2290 and former Commander of the American Legion Post #304, John will be missed by all those he has gained a friendship with through these organizations. He devoted much of his time as a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Hillsborough where he belonged to the Holy Name Society and could often be found Ushering at mass.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his dear wife Helen P. (Suchocki) Bukovecky who passed away in 1972 and by five siblings. John is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Lester Knowles of Palm Harbor, FL and by his two adored grandchildren; Christopher Knowles of Miami, FL and Timothy Knowles of Dunedin, FL and three great-grandchildren; Malana, Everett and Avery. He also leaves behind his cherished siblings; Victor Bukovecky, Sr. of Hillsborough, Irene Potynski of Piscataway, Betty Hydro and Margie Zujkowski both of Hillsborough and Louise Esposito of Miami, FL.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835, on Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. with a 7:30pm Parastas Service and on Friday, June 21, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Hillsborough. John will be laid to rest beside his wife at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough.
