John R. Vairette, U.S. Navy veteran, union painter, devoted husband and family man, passed away in Red Bank on Sunday, October 11, 2015. He was 89. The strong, silent and tender type -- affectionately known as "Pop" to those who loved him most -- John was born in West NY on February 16, 1926, and grew up in North Bergen. After serving his country as a gunner's mate during WWII, he married the love of his life, Christina (Cromie) Vairette, on October 24, 1953 in Union City. Six years later they would start a family in Hazlet and go on to enjoy a bond that would last the rest of his life -- 61 years. He is predeceased by his parents, Michael and Ida (Wetzel). He is survived by his wife, Christina, and his three children: his daughter Caren and her husband Phil Castoro, his daughter Deborah and her husband Edward Murawinski, and his son Thomas Vairette. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: John, Christen, and Daniel Castoro, Kevin, Michael and his wife Ashley, and Matthew Murawinski -- as well as his great grandchild, Emily Murawinski. Arrangements were entrusted to the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3269 State Rt. 35 N, Hazlet. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, October 17th, 10 AM, St. Benedict R.C. Church, Holmdel. Interment at a later date, Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
