Joseph C. Hathaway Sr.

AGE: 53 • Barnegat

Joseph C. Hathaway Sr., 53, of Barnegat, passed away on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Devoted husband of Diana (neè Maccarone), loving father of Tara and her husband Jeremy Larsen, Laura and her husband Petty Officer Jon Christiansen, and Joseph Jr. Beloved "Papi" to Allison, Luke, Troy, and Sean. Loving son of Mary (neè Morrissey) and the late Alfred E. Hathaway. Brother of Joanne and her husband Michael Curry, Diane and her husband Tom Gibbons, Kevin and his wife Janice, Suzanne and her husband Jack Kelliher, Ron and his wife Kelly, Jacqueline and her husband Dr. Matthew Tobin, Dorothy, and Christopher and his wife Kathleen. Also predeceased by his sister, Catherine Durkin. Joseph also leaves many devoted nieces and nephews, as well as many close family members from NJ, MA, IL, FL & Ireland. An avid Boston Bruins fan and a proud Marine. Joe loved to golf and play sports, but his biggest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. Joe will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. The family would like to thank everyone for lifting his spirits during his battle, whether with cards, emails, or by posting pictures wearing his Joe Hat Strong t-shirt on Facebook. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's memory can be made to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Maxwell Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Rd., Manahawkin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 at St Mary's Church, Barnegat. Burial at BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ on February 18th 1pm. A celebration of life mass will be held in Joe's childhood hometown of Dedham, MA on March 7th at St Susanna's Church.
