Julia Horan Obituary
AGE: 88 • Sea Girt
Julia G. Horan (nee Fitzgerald), 88, of Sea Girt, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2012. Born in Manasquan, Julia & her four siblings were raised by their loving parents, David & Mary Fitzgerald. Julia was married to her beloved John Joseph Horan (former CEO and Chairman of the Board of Merck & Co. who passed in January of 2011), with whom she had four beautiful children. They lived in Westfield, NJ and Whitemarsh, PA (while always summering at the shore) before moving to Sea Girt full-time in 1990. Julia was a full-time mother and homemaker, parishioner of St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church, and member of the Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club, Spring Lake Golf Club, and the Green Gables Croquet Club. Julia was the consummate entertainer who played hostess to countless friends, dignitaries, and politicians. She will be dearly missed.
Julia was predeceased by her husband, as well as her brother David Fitzgerald, and sisters Helen Foster and Ann Gearity. She is survived by her devoted daughter Mary Alice Ryan and her husband John of Spring Lake, and her adoring sons Thomas M. Horan and wife Kate of Hoboken, John J. Horan, Jr. and wife Patricia of Sea Girt, and David F. Horan and wife Michele of Armonk, NY. Julia also leaves her nine grandchildren Buck, Jack, Martha, Edward, Thomas, Julia, Alanna, Matthew, and Jack, great grandsons Declan and Finn, as well as her sister Mary Quinn of Tinton Falls.
Visitation will be at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Friday, January 13th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mark's RC Church, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt, on Saturday January 14th at 9:30am followed by interment at St. Catharine's Cemetery.
