Kathleen Cushing Obituary
Highland Park - Kathleen Ann (Murphy) Cushing, 96, formerly of Dunellen, NJ, passed away Sunday, January 28, at her residence at Parker Home at Stonegate, Highland Park, NJ.
A woman of strong faith, Kathleen was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Dunellen during the 54 years of which she resided in the town. A first generation American, she was born March 19, 1922 in Bayonne, NJ to Thomas and Ann Murphy and was extremely proud of her Irish heritage. Kathleen was a graduate of Holy Family Academy in Bayonne, winning the French Language Award honor in her senior year.
Kathleen was a homemaker by profession, noted for her fine cooking, in particular her macaroni and cheese, a recipe she passed on to generations and extended family, and her lemon squares, a staple at all holiday events. Kathleen was a member of the St. John's PTA and enjoyed volunteering in the school library. She was on the Dunellen Little League Ladies Auxiliary and regularly worked the ballfield snack bar. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for her oldest sons and a member of the Our Lady of Fatima Seniors. Kathleen was a giving supporter to charitable organizations, in particular St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John (1996) and son John (1987). She was also predeceased by her sister Mary and brother Thomas. She is survived by her sons Thomas (Sherry) of Roanoke, VA, Robert (Rose) of Edison, NJ, grandsons Robert (Cristina), Luke (Cory) and John, granddaughter Anna (Timothy) Klarich, four great grandchildren, Grace, Robert, Timothy and Owen, and many loving nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at Sheenan's Funeral Home in Dunellen on Wednesday, January 30 from 4 PM to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. John the Evangelist Church in Dunellen on Thursday, January 31 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, NJ.
