Mary Ensor Obituary

Mary Ensor

AGE: 88 • Lanoka Harbor

Mary E. Ensor (Short), 88, of Jensen Beach, FL. and Lanoka Harbor, NJ passed away at home in New Jersey on December 24, 2015 surrounded by family.

Mary was born on December 23, 1927 in Jersey City, NJ to John and Josephine Short (McPartland).

She married Melvin F. Ensor on April 19, 1952 in Jersey City, NJ. They had four boys together and lived for many years in Bricktown, NJ before moving to Forked River, NJ in 1971. She was a communicant of St. Pius X Church. Mary graduated from St. Michael's High School in Jersey City.

Mary was employed from 1973 to 1992 at the Naval Air Engineering Center in Lakehurst, NJ, where she was a supply specialist. She was a long time member of the Woman's Club of Lacey. She enjoyed the company of her many friends and colleagues in New Jersey and at the Jensen Beach Club in Florida where she liked nothing better than having dinner with family and friends at Shuckers on Hutchinson Island while watching the ocean waves. Always one to enjoy the beach, she spent her youth at Rockaway Beach in NY, many a day with Mel in the Atlantic Highlands, and with the boys at Manasquan.

Mary loved travelling whether with Mel, friends or family. She talked often of her cruises to Bermuda and Alaska along the Inside Passage. Her trip to Rome and St. Peter's Basilica was always mentioned, and her time with son Matthew in Scotland.

Mary is survived by her sons, Richard Ensor and Deirdre, and children Kaitlin, Brendan, Kiernan and Colleen of Lanoka Harbor; Stephen Ensor and Linda, and children Mary and Michael of Hobe Sound, FL; Andrew Ensor of Jensen Beach; and daughter-in-law Sherie Ensor and son Matthew of Forked River. Mary was preceded in death by husband Mel Ensor in January 1989 and son Matthew in 2011.

Surviving Mary is her brother Frank and Dr. Susan Short of Naples, FL; sister-in-law Lorraine Short of Naples, FL; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers John, Robert and James, and sisters Veronica and Dorothy.

Visitation at Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Route 9, Forked River, NJ 08731 on Tuesday from 5-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Wednesday December 30 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 300 Lacey Road, Forked River, NJ 08731.

I loved Mary. My heart is broken. So upset I missed saying good-bye as I just found out of her passing this morning. She raised an amazing family, talked of them often, was very proud of them, and loved them dearly.

When I remember Mary it is always with a smile. She was the wife of my late husband's first cousin and with our large family gatherings her generous nature was always there. She was a dear lady and will be missed.
