MARY J. PELKOWSKI
AGE: 72 UNION BEACH
Mary J. Pelkowski, "Mary the Wiz", 72, of Union Beach, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, with her family at her side at Bayshore Hospital in Holmdel. She was born on July 8, 1937, in Weehawken, New Jersey. She grew up in Jersey City and moved to Matawan in 1964 and then Union Beach in 2001. Prior to retiring, Mary worked for Shrewsbury State Bank as a customer service representative and also at Bare Necessities in Matawan for over 20 years. She graduated Ferris High School in Jersey City as the class Salutatorian and was also the recipient of the Gold Key Award by the American Legion.
She was predeceased by her parents, John J.
and Josephine Rutkowski Wisniewski and her son-in-law, Craig T. Roberts. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Deacon Raymond R. Pelkowski (St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Holmdel, NJ), her loving children, Roberta A. Wertz and her husband Kevin of Iselin, NJ, Gail Quiros and her son-in-law Gustavo of Matawan, Mary K. Roberts of Harrington, DE, David R. Pelkowski and his wife Melissa J. of Howell, NJ; her dear sisters, Dolores Russo of Bogota, Katherine Guerra of Middletown, NY; her cherished grandchildren, Alexander Wertz, Theresa Wertz, Christopher Wertz, Carolyn Witte, Rebecca Roberts, Diana Promutico, Craig T. Roberts, Mary Bausch, David Roberts, Eric Roberts, Andrew Quiros, Sean Roberts, Matthew Pelkowski and her 13 great grandchildren, Mikayla, Christian, Gwendolyn, Anastasia, Isabella, Gabrielle, Emma, Joseph, Cadence, Kevin, Brianna, David and Lily. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, Oct. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 19 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3269 Highway 35 North, Hazlet, NJ 07730. A Funeral Liturgy in honor of Mary will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Holmdel. Entombment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery in Holmdel, NJ. Dear Ray and family,
I am very sorry to hear of Mary's passing. She was a wonderful lady and I am glad to have known her. She will be deeply missed by not only her family, but by all of the people who knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
