Mary Patricia Teehan, "Pat", 78, of Middletown, NJ, died Sunday, November 4, 2012 at her home. Pat was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived in the Belford section of Middletown for 32 years where she raised 6 children and was an outstanding example of the Catholic charitable ideal. Pat was a co-founder along with her close friend Barney Welch of the Barn for the Poorest of the Poor for which she received both the National Caring Award from the Caring Institute in Washington, DC, and the Pacesetters Award from Prudential Property and Casualty. Pat worked selflessly and joyously for many years with Mother Teresa and her Missionaries of Charity, and anonymously for many other charitable organizations.

In addition to her volunteer work, Pat worked as an actuarial clerk for Prudential and as an admissions clerk for Brookdale Community College. Many of you in Middletown may fondly remember Pat as the milk and cookie lady from the St Mary's School and Mater Dei High School cafeterias.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Edwin (1968) and her parents, Thomas and Catherine McCarthy, a sister, Kathleen Doherty.

Pat's proudest achievement are her 6 children and 22 grandchildren. Surviving are her, 4 sons & daughter-in-laws -Drs. Edwin and Sima Teehan of Franklin Lakes, John and Debbie Teehan of Belford, Damien and Terry Teehan of St Cloud, Fla., Tim and Lisa Teehan of Middletown; 2 daughters & son-in-laws Dr. Mary Pat and Sonny Johnson of Brigantine, Catherine and Stephen O'Keefe of Morganville; brother, Thomas McCarthy of Miami, Fla; and 22 grandchildren: Ryan, Connor, JT, Michael, Kelsie, Casey, Mac, Caitrin, Patrick, Sean, Matthew, Dominic, Brendan, Alyssa, Kara, Trevor, Keriann, Shannon, Tommy, Stephen, Tess, and Daniel.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 06, 2012 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 8:25 at the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Chapel, 26 Leonardville Rd., Middletown. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, N. Arlington.
