Matthew Mullin Obituary

(Asbury Park Press)

MATTHEW LEON MULLIN, III
AGE: 65 WYNCOTE
Matthew Leon Mullin III, 65, of Wyncote, died suddenly on May 1, 2009. Mr. Mullin grew up in Lincroft, New Jersey, the son of Matthew L. and Sally D. Mullin, and graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School in 1961. He graduated from LaSalle College in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in political science, where he was also a member of Army ROTC. For two years, Matt served as Captain in the Army Reserves and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In May 1970, Matt joined the federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent in the Atlanta Office. He then worked in the New York Office for seven years. In 1977, Matt was transferred to Philadelphia FBI Office, where he was of a law enforcement team that investigated the corruption case of Buddy Cianfrani and the kidnapping and murder case of Susan Reinert and her children. In May 1995, Matt retired from the FBI after 30 years of service. In subsequent years, he worked as a licensed private detective, for a government contract firm performing background investigations, as Eastern Regional Manager for Integrated Biometric Technology, a fingerprinting services company, and as a customer service representative for QuigMeds. Matt was a long-standing member of Wyncote Civic Association, where he had served as President and most recently, Secretary/Treasurer. He was an active member of Saint Luke the Evangelist Church, an avid supporter of LaSalle University Womens' basketball team, and had a passion for golf and thoroughbred horse racing.
Most of all, Matt had a passion for his family. He was a loving husband to his wife, Margaret, of 38 years; a doting father to three children, Matthew Patrick, of Berwyn, Nora Elizabeth, Washington, DC and Kathleen Margaret, of New Orleans, and a caring brother to Martha O'Neill, of Lake Wales, Florida, and many extended relatives. Matt was a tremendous presence in the lives of all those who knew him and he will be dearly missed.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday 11 a.m. at St. Luke the Evangelist Church Easton Rd. and Fairhill Ave. Glenside, PA 19038. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Church. There will be no viewing Wednesday Morning. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent, in Matthew Mullin's memory, to Melmark Home, 2600 Wayland Road, Berwyn, PA 19312. Arrangements by: May Funeral Home 215-884-8410.

To Marge and family,
It was a great privilege to have known Matt when we were new agents in New York and new home owners in Allentown, NJ. I will remember Matt for his sense of humor and his integrity. I am sure he passed along those qualities to his children.

Dear Margaret,

I can't be with all of you today, but I'd like you to know that I'm there in spirit.

Matt was always very kind to me; ever quick with a humorous story or joke at family gatherings, a smile and a laugh and a twinkle in those Irish eyes that would endear all to him.

He loved you so much, Margie. He told me that he thanked God everyday for you in his life. He adored his little girls, all grown now. But you know all of this, and I'm rambling on not knowing what to say or how to say it.

For some reason I always remember the last line in Hamlet at times like this. (It's really a paraphrase because it's been a long time since I read Shakespeare.)

"Good night, sweet prince. And may hosts of angels come and carry you to your rest."

God bless and keep you, Margie all the days of your life; and may our Lord Jesus welcome Matt into His heavenly kingdom to rest in His light and His love forever.

Love to you always,
Betty (Lang)

Dear Marge, Matthew,Nora and Kate,

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to your entire family. Matt meant a great deal to me. He taught me how to be an investigator and how to do it professionally. I enjoyed the projects we worked on such as St. Luke's School Security Committee and teaching the students about fingerprinting. I last spent the day with Matt at the funeral of another well-loved detective who Matt and I knew for years, Don Rohner. We all sat together at the luncheon. But most importantly I will miss Matt's infectious laugh and ability to have a great time with friends. Matt will be greatly missed.

Dear Marge and family.
I am so sorry for your loss. Matt as everyone knows was one of the nicest and kindest people. I will always remember him.

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

We have lost one of the few honorable men. The courage to stand for the right thing was always foremost in Matthew's way of life. To do the right thing seemed to always be easy for him. A lasting memory of the quality of men. Matthew to know you was to respect and love you. Dear cousin/brother substitute you will be in my heart forever. How lucky all our family was to have shared the planet with him.

To the Mullin Family:

I am a retired FBI Agent from the Philadelphia Division currently working as an advisor to the commander of the 4th BCT 25TH Airborne Division assisting the U.S. Army with it's mission in Afghanistan. Today, I was sitting in a computer center at a forward operating base called Sharana in Paktika Province trying to get a flight back to my own base..I am on the south jersey chapter email distribution list that charley fullam runs. His emails are usually the first ones I open every day..today was no different...I am shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Matt's passing.. He was a highly respected Agent within the Division and the community he served. He made a difference. I always enjoyed talking to him and I consider him to be a good friend. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend his funeral. Please accept my deepest condolences..

Our deepest condolences! We enjoyed years of family celebrations made richer by Matt's presence and humor. I defer to the Bard to say what many feel about this prince among men:

"His life was gentle, and the elements
So mixed in him that Nature might stand up
And say to all the world, 'This was a man!'"

Love,
Susan and Allen
