Michael Besante Obituary
MICHAEL A. BESANTE
AGE: 80 BEACHWOOD
Michael A. Besante, 80, of Beachwood died March 10, 2009 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Long Branch, he had lived many years in Jersey City before moving to Beachwood in 1991. Mr. Besante had served on the Jersey City Police Department for 30 years and retired as detective in 1989. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Oriskany, Air Craft Carrier #34 during the Korean War. He was a member of the Retired Police and Fireman's Association of Hudson County.
He is predeceased by his brother, John L. Besante and by his brother-in-law, Monsignor Joseph Loreti. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Rose Loreti Besante; two sons and their wives, Michael and Julia Besante, and John and LuAnn Besante; and four grandchildren, Mary, Jamie, Melissa and Michael.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, March 12, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Jersey City. Burial will follow to Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's name to: Holy Rosary Church, 344 Sixth Street, Jersey City, NJ 07304 or St. John's Soup Kitchen, 22 Mulberry Street, Newark NJ 07102, would be appreciated.

Dear Mrs. Besante, John and Michael:
I offer my heartfelt condolences and deepest expression of sympathy.
While some time has passed, I will always remember Mr. Besante as a man of great presence and strength, but one who was very gentle with a great sense of humor and personal warmth. I will always look back fondly at the days when we were neighbors in Jersey City during my youth.
I will keep him and you all in my prayers.

Dear Rose,Michael and John,
Carol and I are so sorry to hear of Mikes passing. We and Brian and Craig will always have fond memories of Mike. He was always ready with a bottle of wine for me or a matchbox car for Craigy. Craig still has many of these cars and makes sure our grandchildren know where they came from when they play with them. He was the best neighbor that anyone could ask for. We are so sorry that we cannot be there to pay our respects but know that he and you are in our prayers
