Michael Joseph Clifford, Jr.

Michael Joseph Clifford, Jr., age 30, of Lakewood, passed away on April 20, 2016 in Newark, NJ.

Born in New Brunswick, he lived in Piscataway and Manchester, before moving to Lakewood in 2010. Michael was a graduate of Manchester High School in 2003. He was a self-employed general contractor who took tremendous pride in his work. He was a man with a big heart who loved his family dearly. Michael enjoyed camping, fishing, crabbing, playing ice hockey and paint ball. He also loved animals. Michael was a fan of the NY Rangers, NY Mets and NY Giants.

He is survived by his mother, Harriet Clifford; his father, Michael Joseph Clifford and his wife Laura; a brother, Chris Gunderud; a sister, Michelle Brower; a step-brother, Ryan Cucchiara; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. His family will offer memories and remarks at 7:00 p.m. Cremation will be private.

Michael was my best friend for the past three years. We were inseparable. Each other's shadows. Bonnie and Clyde. We loved going for late night walks. Fishing and camping. We were always out driving in my car. Even with a donut. He was there for me before and after the passing of my mom. We had pets in common. Mocha our ball python. Maxsie our red tail boa. Silk Satin and Vicky our rats. Mosley our tarantula. And he had a bird Macky. For the past 10 months we wrote each other letters. I sent him pictures of his famy his pets and my new life in Cali. We spoke for hours about separating and bettering our lives. Before he left my house on June 5, 2015. Vowing we would see each other again. My heart goes out to his mother Harriet that showed him more love than a mother could. Just as my mother did with me. His father he showed him tough love. Just as my father does to me. His older brother Chris who is the rock of the family. And one heck of a great guy. His lovely lovely sister Michelle who he loved more than life itself. He would do anything for her. And all his other loving family members who always showed their love for him. To all his friends who have treated me with so much love bc of my grieving. The nicest people ever. Rest in peace my dearest best friend. Every letter I wrote to him ended with I love you Michael. You are my best friend.

My family and I were shocked to find this out. We are so very sorry to hear of your loss. We were neighbors in Manchester years ago and Michael was friends with our eldest son and daughters. Building treehouses in the woods..beautiful boy..wonderful memories...
