Michael Anthony Mercurio, 86, died on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown. He was born in Bernardsville on May 8, 1927, a son of the late Joseph and Theresa DiCaterino Mercurio, and had been a lifelong resident of Bernardsville. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War having served overseas in Germany. Mr. Mercurio was a deliveryman employed by Somerset Grain and Feed in Bernardsville for 23 years retiring in 1992. He previously worked as a painter within a family painting business. He was an avid sports fan especially supporting Notre Dame Football, Notre Dame Womens Basketball and the NY Yankees. He loved and valued time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bernardsville.

Mr. Mercurio was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy McCallen Mercurio, who died November 27, 2009, and by numerous brothers and sisters. He is survived by a son, Michael Mercurio of Hampton; a daughter, Dorothy J. Austra of Delaware City, DE; a step-son, Donald Thorne of Edison; 4 step-daughters, Carol Wiseman of Dunellen, Nancy Thorne of Edison, Peggy Thorne and Jeanne Blodgett both of Frenchtown; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral gathering at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Tuesday, April 1 at 9:15am followed by a Mass at Sacred Heart Chapel, Bernardsville at 10:00am. Entombment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday 6-9pm.
