Morton H. Popok

AGE: 79 • Wanamassa

Morton H. Popok, 79, real estate broker and founder of Popok Realty Co. and the former president of Tastee Beverage Inc., loving and loved father, companion, stepfather, grandfather, brother and uncle, died on December 10th, after a long battle against mantle cell lymphoma. Morty to his close friends and family, he was a life long resident of the Jersey Shore, born in Asbury Park, and was raised, and lived for the rest of his life in, Wanamassa.

He was a graduate of Asbury Park High School and studied at Monmouth College. He was a proud member of the US Army where, following officer training, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and also served in our National Guard. Mort was also proud that he was a Free and Accepted Mason and a member of Asbury Jordan Lodge #142. Following the Army, he joined and became president of the family business, Tastee Beverage Inc., a soda and seltzer distributor located in Neptune founded by his grandfather Meyer Popok in 1906. He worked as a "seltzer man" along side his father Joseph Popok. In 1973, he entered the real estate brokerage business and ultimately founded Popok Realty Co. For more than 40 years, Mort was a successful commercial real estate broker specializing in business brokerage. His ubiquitous yellow and red real estate signs were well known up and down the Shore. He was also proud of his time teaching the NJ Real Estate salesperson course.

He is survived by his son, Michael S. Popok, Manhattan, Deputy General of Cantor Fitzgerald; his long-time companion and business partner Marcia Norsig, broker for Popok Property Management; his stepdaughter Christina Norsig Anton, Manhattan, CEO/founder of PopUpInsider; his stepson-in-law Eric Anton, Senior Managing Director of HFF, his stepdaughter Karen Burke, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, his grandchildren, Ben Burke, Lawrenceville GA, and Olivia and Willem Anton, of Manhattan, his brother Herbert Popok and sister in law, Harriet Popok, his nephews Harvey Kasliner, Ron Kasliner, Doug and Steve Popok, his nieces Amy Parker and Anne Kasliner, and his former wife, Gloria Popok, of Lawrenceville Georgia.

Funeral services will be at 10 am , Sunday, December 13th at the Chesed Shel Emes Cemetery, 2298 West Bangs Avenue, Neptune City, NJ. Shiva will be observed for two days. Immediately following the funeral, the shiva observance will be at the home of Christina and Eric Anton, 711 Bendermere Avenue, Interlaken, NJ 07712. A service will be held at 7 pm that evening. Shiva will continue on Monday, December 14th from 6-9 pm, at the home of his son, Michael S. Popok, 200 Central Park South, Apt 29c, NY, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in the name of Morton H. Popok to the Lymphoma Research Foundation through its website, Lymphoma.org.
